Long Radius Elbows for Pneumatic Conveying Systems

Long radius elbows are also known as long radius bends and are commonly used in pneumatic conveying systems. These specialized tubing bends are designed to provide a smoother transition for both airflow and conveyed materials as they travel through the piping system. Compared to standard radius elbows, long radius elbows reduce airflow resistance and pressure loss, helping improve overall system efficiency.

One of the primary advantages of long radius elbows is their ability to reduce product impaction against the outer wall of the bend. By providing a larger center line radius (CLR), the conveyed material changes direction more gradually, resulting in less wear on the elbow and less degradation of the product being transported.

Benefits of Long Radius Tubing Bends

Reduced resistance through long radius tubing bends can lower horsepower requirements, allowing blowers and vacuum producers to operate more efficiently. This can help decrease energy consumption while extending the service life of system components. Long radius bends are often preferred when handling fragile materials, pellets, powders, grains, plastic resins, and other dry bulk products that can be damaged by excessive impact.

Our long radius elbows are available with standard straight ends and are commonly connected using compression couplings. Long radius bends can be manufactured in a variety of diameters, materials, wall thicknesses, bend angles, and center line radii to meet specific application requirements.

Common Applications for Long Radius Elbows

Examples of pneumatic conveying systems utilizing long radius elbows include railcar unloading systems, truck unloading systems, bulk material transfer systems, central vacuum cleaning systems, and industrial dust collection systems. In a typical railcar unloading application, material is fed into the conveying line through a hopper and rotary valve before being transported through the piping system and discharged into a storage silo or processing vessel.

Long radius elbows are also commonly used in industrial vacuum systems, dust collection systems, and material handling applications where maintaining airflow efficiency and reducing component wear are important considerations.
