Long radius elbows are also known as long radius bends. Long radius bends are used commonly in pneumatic conveying systems. The long radius elbow serves a couple of purposes in a pneumatic conveying piping system. The first thing it does is allows the air to flow smoothly with less drag or resistance. This requires less horsepower to push the product thorough the long radius elbows and also results in less impaction, and therefore less damage, to the material flowing through the pneumatic conveying tubing line.
Our long radius elbows are available with standard straight ends. This type of end commonly uses compression couplings when connecting two pieces together.
Examples of pneumatic conveying systems utilizing long radius elbows would be a rail car unloading a dry bulk product. The product is fed to the piping system, usually through a hopper with a rotary valve, and then blown some distance for storage into a silo.
